Day 9 – another scab and redness increases

I appear to have developed another scab overnight and my nose looks more red and blotchy today. Again, the Efudix cream seems to be affecting the opposite side of my nose to my scar. Still all pretty minor though thank goodness.

I’m still being very cautious when applying the Efudix cream. The instructions state quite clearly that you should only apply a thin layer as applying too much could cause it to enter the blood stream and cause side effects. That doesn’t sound good and I don’t want that thank you very much so spread it out ever so thinly with with a cotton bud. Efudix/Fluorouracil is evil stuff. But how much is a thin layer and, how much is too much? Am I actually applying too little?  I do hope not as don’t want to have to go through this again. It’s so hard to know what to do for the best.

Apparently, you also have to be careful not to accidentally get the Efudix inside your nose – I read about someone else who did and said it stung like mad. So, I very tentatively apply it to my septum and just under my nostrils. And, I’ve got a slightly red, dry piece of skin on my septum – is this an open wound? If it is, I need to avoid applying the Efudix there too so very carefully work around it.

I still can’t bring myself to apply the Efudix to my scar area either because it looks slightly pinky and I can’t help picturing what it looked like when it was an open wound – the skin has only recently grown back over it and it just seems so thin and fragile.
