Efudix side effects

Every day I get a new patch of redness or a new scab on my nose, I re-read the information leaflet that comes with the Efudix cream to check that is an expected and not an adverse side effect. I do this because the instructions advise against potential side effects of using too much cream and I still haven’t really got a grasp on what a correct amount of cream is.  I thought it might be useful to capture the side effects of the Efudix here:

General side effects

  • red, round and painful sores
  • rashes on areas not treated with the Efudix

Unwanted side effects of Efudix

  • itching
  • redness
  • burning sensation
  • severe peeling
  • intense swelling or inflammation
  • ulceration
  • blistering
  • irritation
  • pain
  • rash

These are described as severe responses to the Fluorouracil which I’m a little confused and worried about because they appear to be fairly standard effects – every blog I read talks about suffering from a number of them; and I’m starting to get a few …

And these are the potential adverse side effects you must report immediately to a doctor:

  • stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting
  • swelling and soreness of the mouth and tongue
  • fever or generally feeling unwell
